Call 911Call if you can; text if you cannot safely speak. Text-to-911 is not available everywhere. Always give your current address, unit, and city—911 may not know your location. This app does not send your location or contact emergency services for you.
Opens your phone’s text app; review the recipient and message before sending. If the message is blank, copy your words into it. Use plain SMS only, without photos or group recipients. Messages may remain in your phone’s history. If you get an unavailable notice or no reply, call 911 if safe or ask someone nearby to call.
If 911 does not have your address
During an emergency, give your current location first: street address, unit, city, and a nearby landmark if needed. Answer the dispatcher’s questions. Do not delay getting help to change phone settings.
When it is safe, update your Wi-Fi Calling emergency address. It can help route a Wi-Fi call but does not guarantee your current location is known.
- iPhone: In Settings, open Cellular (or Mobile Service), select your phone line if needed, then Wi-Fi Calling. Look for Update Emergency Address. Labels vary by version and provider.

- AT&T: Update Emergency Address in Wi-Fi Calling settings or your AT&T profile. Provider instructions
- T-Mobile: Sign in to your T-Mobile account and update the E911 address for your line. Provider instructions
- Other providers: Ask your provider how to update your Wi-Fi Calling / E911 address; it may be separate from your billing address.
